We are witnessing a revolution that is set to change, or at least significantly alter, many of the ways we work. The growth of artificial intelligence is exponential and is quickly permeating nearly all fields—even those we once thought were exclusively the domain of the human mind. Architecture is no exception, and we are on the cusp of some exciting years with the emergence of increasingly powerful tools that have the potential to bring transformative impacts to our sector. Like any new technology, it is neither inherently good nor bad; its value depends on how we choose to use it. Initially, the integration of AI into architecture may be intimidating or even frightening for some, who may reject it without even attempting to understand its capabilities. I prefer to assess it for myself, and to do so requires acquiring a certain level of knowledge so that we can form our own opinions on the subject.

I invite you on a journey of research and exploration to discover, unravel, or attempt to clarify how we can uncover new creative methodologies through the use of artificial intelligence, integrating these into our existing design processes. All of this should be done while keeping the core focus of this Studio—computational design—in mind. My aim is to fuse these two paradigms and explore where this confluence might lead us. My hypothesis is that we can uncover new forms of creative processes that were, until recently, unimaginable. We have the unique opportunity to be among the first to imagine these new pathways, to develop architectural solutions that are more sustainable, inclusive, and innovative than ever before.

This course, Computational Architectural Intelligence, aims to serve as an incubator for these exciting possibilities, equipping you with the practical skills and conceptual understanding you need to pioneer the future of architectural design.
