Emancipatory living practices & feminist neighbourhoods - feminist principles in housing and urban design

nur für Incom-Mitglieder

Based on the thesis that social power and gender relations are inscribed in the spatial structures of our cities , we will be looking at feminist strategies to expose and counteract them.

First, we will conduct literature research to create a shared timeline of feminist practices, highlighting the range of approaches in urban planning configurations and housing design, from historical to contemporary examples.

Using selected sample projects, we want to examine emancipatory housing practices, feminist neighbourhoods and structures of self-empowerment and self-organisation.

The aim is to identify how these differ from capitalist, patriarchal, or normative models. From the analysis of these projects, we will identify a catalog of feminist spatial and structuring elements in order to make these practices more visible and to show which spatial principles in urban planning and housing construction can lead to more equitable spaces.
