Computational Bauhaus Pavilion

This winter semester comes with a unique opportunity to explore one of the most significant milestones in the history of art, architecture, and modern design: the Bauhaus. Founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus was a revolutionary school that aimed to fuse fine arts with the functionality of architecture and industrial design. Its vision was to integrate all artistic disciplines under one roof, creating a new form of art that addressed the social and industrial needs of the time.

In 1925, the Bauhaus relocated to Dessau, where it reached its zenith and marked a turning point in twentieth-century design and architecture. In 2025, we will commemorate the centenary of this significant relocation, an occasion for a special celebration. Throughout 2025 and 2026, a series of events will be organized across the city to honor the legacy of the Bauhaus. Since the main building will be fully occupied with exhibitions and activities, it has been decided to utilize the adjacent green spaces to expand capacity and facilitate the execution of the scheduled programs.

To achieve this, the design and construction of a temporary architectural structure are required to serve as a venue for some of the activities. This structure must be entirely dismantlable once the celebrations have concluded. Our mission is to design an outdoor pavilion that not only fulfills these functional requirements but also honors the historical significance of the occasion, respecting and reflecting the aesthetic and conceptual principles of the Bauhaus.
