The ShellScape is an enchanting architectural pavillion that takes inspiration from the organic structure and protective allure of a turtle shell. This architectural gridshell, utilizes the natural bending & twisting movement of the turtle’s fin to create a flowing form that invites visitors to explore the pavillion on all angles.
The turtle shell is a natural structure that we have used as a main inspiration to achieve the final form of the pavillion. The shell is a protective layer that covers the turtle's body and provides it with structural support, allowing the turtle to move and swim through water.
One of the key features of the turtle shell is its unique pattern of ridges and curves. These natural forms have been adapted to create visually striking designs that evoke a sense of strength and durability. In our pavillion, we proposed the usage of hexagonal modules as a replication of the shell’s modular divisions.
In addition to the shell's exterior, the movement of the turtle's fins can also be a source of inspiration for architectural forms. The fins are used to create an organic, flowing form that is reminiscent of the movement of water.
