Located just 1.5km from the Zukunftszentrum in Halle, this workshop space is chosen within a sunken shaft infrastructure that encircles by Halle’s train tracks. Designed as an integral fraction of the larger project blueprint, its focuses on being affordable, efficient, and for rapid construction.
Embracing the ethos of „as found“ architecture, the workshop integrates potential local objects to be part of the design.
Through extensive research, several objects around Halle have been identified as potential main structures for the site. Among them are a railroad freight car, a wind turbine, and a jib crane structure. These items, being widely available, can be purchased or repurposed for the project, providing a cost-effective and sustainable solution towards the design.
After careful consideration, the jib crane structure has been chosen for its structural integrity. Capitalizing on its proximity to the railway, the structure can be transported directly to the site and hoisted into position. It will serve as access points into the shaft, seamlessly repurposing the object from its original function.
