Zeitz has become a ghost town over the passage of time. Through lack of use and decay, the industrial building ZeKiWa 42 is part and parcel of this process. In order to counteract this decline, it is precisely here that a center of creative transformation can be established. This manifests itself not only in its new function, but also in the refusal to regard the building fabric as abandoned. LoT is a reaction to the realization that the path of capitalist growth has its material and social limits. The new program for the building responds to the throwaway mentality that consumes, uses and wastes resources by reusing and recycling used objects. Integrated workshops encourage new forms of experimentation with different materials and invite people to „act together“: Participants - both users and consumers - learn new craft techniques and skills based on the do-it-yourself and application principle.
With the philosophy of up-cycling, this project proves that inert materials and objects have a second chance. A table with a broken base is not just seen as waste here, but also as an opportunity to find life again. By recognizing the value and potential of each piece, LoT pushes the boundaries of sustainability and creativity. Moreover, this place inspires not only Zeitz, but the whole world to take a step towards a sustainable future.
